GORNAL Athletic manager Matt Fisher has backed his side to bounce straight back after relegation was confirmed last Saturday.

The Peacocks lost 3-1 at home to Bilston Town and will be playing their football in the West Midlands League Division One next term.

However, Fisher says he knows what improvements need to be made at Garden Walk and believes his young squad can come out fighting next season.

He said: “We need better strength in depth and that is something I’m already working on.

“I didn’t have the personnel I needed on the bench on Saturday to make the changes I wanted and want to put that right.

“But I’m excited about next season already and expect us to bounce straight back."

“Our downfall this season is that we have performed against the top sides but then come up short against lesser opposition. Playing teams below us will hopefully be a regular occurrence next season so it is something we need to put right.”

Fisher has already brought in midfielder Reece Dabbs and midfielder Scott Glasby as he looks to add more experience to his young squad.

“We want to keep our young players, they’ve been our most consistent,” added Fisher. “What we really need to some experienced players to help bring them on.”

Athletic will face Wolverhampton Sporting at home this Saturday (3pm).
