DUDLEY Sports suffered a 4-0 defeat at home to league leaders Haughmond last Saturday.

Sports had picked up an important four points from their previous two games but couldn't do enough to get something from the table-toppers.

However, despite the defeat, manager Tony Gore was happy with his side's showing and is now gearing up for big fight for survival with five games left this term.

He said: "I don't think we looked too bad but we were just up against a very good side.

"Whatever we'd have got from the game would have been a big bonus. We're now focused on five cup finals. It's going to be a big scrap now but the important thing is that it's in our own hands."

Sports don't have a game this Saturday but will look to stay clear of second-from-bottom side Wellington Amateurs when they take on Bewdley Town away next Tuesday night.

They are now five points ahead of Wellington Amateurs but have played a game more and face a key clash with their relegation rivals next month.

Gore was unhappy as Wellington Amateurs called off their game with Pegasus Juniors last weekend after failing to raise a side.

He added: "It just doesn't seem right when this happens. We had 12 players ourselves but just got on with it.

"It is too easy to call games off and until the league does something about it, like imposing a points penalty, then teams will continue to do it.

"They will probably be in a better position when they do play the game again and that doesn't seem fair."

Gore said he will look to add one or two fresh faces by the end of the week to help see his squad through to the end of the season.
