OLD Hill captain Jonathan Wright says his side won't dwell on their losing start to the Birmingham League Division Two season.

The skipper is instead looking forward to a big weekend and the chance to recapture that winning feeling.

The Haden Hill outfit suffered a 13-run defeat against Coventry and North Warwickshire last Saturday as they failed to hit back from the opening-day disappointment at Sutton Coldfield.

Zuhaib Akhlaque's unbeaten 98 helped the hosts to 209-9 from their 50 overs.

Despite openers Wright (6) and Duncan Willetts (4) failing to fire, Old Hill stayed in the contest as their middle order got starts without going on to bag a big score.

In the end, Ashley Turney's three wickets for the loss 24 runs from his 9.3 overs helped bowl out the visitors just shy of their target.

However, Old Hill now face C&R Hawks away this Saturday (noon start) before National Knock-out action at Kidderminster on Sunday (1pm).

Wright said: "I think we just need that first win now to help us gain some momentum. The win-lose format early in the season and be cruel but you just have to be a bit pragmatic about it. It's a long season."

"If we play to our potential and ability then I really don't think we have to worry about the opposition too much. If we get it right we will start winning games.

"We have a big weekend coming up and we shouldn't worry about the last two games. We just need to look forward and be positive about what is on offer."

On the Coventry defeat, he added: "We fell just short but it was a tough day for us after we got the worse of the conditions when fielding. We had to contest with a wet ball and maybe gave them 20 runs too many, but that could be attributed to the conditions so we won't worry too much.

"We were still in a position to win the game with the bat but were the architects of our own downfall. We maybe lacked a bit of experience at the key time.

"Overall, there wasn't a lot wrong with the performance and it was a close run thing."

Batsman Nav Poonia is absent this Saturday but Australian youngster Matt Ellul is set to come into the side. The medium pacer will slot in to cover the absence with the order shifting up accordingly.

Sunday's game will see Wright utilise his squad to make three or four changes to cover other absences.
