GORNAL Athletic have named Lee Smith as the club's new assistant manager as part of a summer shake-up of the management structure at Garden Walk.

Smith, who played for the Peacocks last season, is a fully licensed FA coach and also works as a community manager for Wolverhampton Wanderers.

He will assist boss Matt Fishers as the club look to hit back following relegation to Division One of the West Midlands League.

His appointment follows the news last week that Simon Williams will be director of football.

Fisher said: "Lee has worked with me for 20 years, we have played together and has been my captain.

"He will be my assistant next season and will be a big help."

Meanwhile, goalkeeping coach Wayne Shakespeare will stay on in his role for next season.

The club's pre-season plans are already taking shape after a friendly was arranged with Worcester City at Garden Walk on July 11.
