GEOFF Hill struck twice as Gornal Athletic secured a derby victory over Wrens Nest last Saturday.

The Peacocks extended their unbeaten league run to nine games with a 3-0 success at Garden Walk.

Hill netted his first in the opening 10 minutes before his second and another from Tom Beech wrapped up the spoils in the final 15 minutes.

The win lifts Athletic up to fifth place in Division One of the West Midlands League and just five points off leaders Newport Town.

Manager Matt Fisher said: "They came out aggressively and tried to ruffle our feathers a little but we stuck to the game plan.

"We've dominated them and kept them down to three shots in the end.

"It was 1-0 for a long spell and they made it difficult for us at times but we kept our concentration to get the win."

Gornal will look to maintain their fine form when Tipton Town visit this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

Fisher added: "It'll be another tough game, probably the toughest we've faced for a while.

"We are getting more people coming to watch us now and the players really appreciate it. This week we also had the support of the young lads from the 'Shed Army' as well.

"The team is doing well and it'd be great if we could get a few more to come and see us."

The boss has no injury concerns ahead of Saturday with Lee Jukes due to return from a groin injury.
