STOURBRIDGE Lions finally get to play their eagerly anticipated National Senior Vase semi-final against Sleaford this Saturday (3pm).

The clash at Stourton Park was postponed two weeks by the snow and ice.

It’s a big game with both clubs two wins away from a place in the Twickenham final.

The Lions warmed up for the big game in style, with a comprehensive 30-6 league victory over Cleobury Mortimer in Midlands Three East (North) last weekend.

Despite a slow start against a fast young Cleobury team, the Lions drew first blood with a try from centre Will Ballard after a thunderous run from wing Arron Clifford, Harry Wainwright adding the conversion from almost on the touchline. The backs may as well have gone to the bar at this point as the Lions pack took a firm grip on the game.

They were inspired by the recently-returned number eight Chris Simcox, who proved that his advancing years haven’t diminished his undoubted talents.

Star of the show was prop James Owen who notched up a hat-trick of tries.

Wainwright again slotted one of the conversions and two penalties before Cleobury kicked with two late penalties of their own.
