ENTERPRISING students in Stourbridge scooped a double first with a business idea to beat the current financial blues.

Young people from Stourbridge College cleared a £500 profit from their first venture into the entertainment business after hosting a club night at a Waterfront venue.

The students formed their own company, called One & Only, to run the event which sold its maximum capacity 850 tickets.

One & Only was the Hagley Road college’s first collaboration with the national Young Enterprise scheme, a charity which provides training, support and business mentoring for new student run companies.

Lynette Cutting, principal at Stourbridge College, said: ”It's fantastic that Stourbridge College's first Young Enterprise venture has been so successful.

“The students have excelled in their first business venture and I'm sure the experience will contribute enormously to their learning.”

Margot James, former business woman and Conservative Party spokesperson for Stourbridge is mentoring the Stourbridge College team.

Margot said: “One & Only have got off to a flying start, Young Enterprise rules state that new companies have to generate a minimum of £80 share capital from an initial activity.

“A lot of groups do this by selling shares, its far better to run a profitable activity and retain 100 per cent of the share capital.”
