A STOURBRIDGE architect is on the 'hairway' to fundraising heaven after growing his locks for charity cash.
Alun Nicholas, whose business is based in Clark Street, has grown his hair to rockstar dimensions in a bid to raise £1,000 for Birmingham based charity The Little Princess Trust and Acorns Children’s Hospice.
Normally known for smart, short haircuts, Alun aims to support the good causes by raising sponsorship money and donations.
He also plans to donate the hair to the Trust for use in wigs for children suffering from illnesses like cancer and alopecia or recovering from burns.
He got the idea to let his hair grow long after missing a haircut appointment which led to a suggestion to support the charity from his goddaughter, who donated her own pony tail to a similar cause.
Alun, aged 42, said: “I has been incredibly frustrating, the hot weather didn’t help, it got in the way of everything.”
Alun originally thought he would be growing his hair for six to nine months until he learned the charity requires donated locks to be grown to a length of ten inches, which has taken two-and-a-half years.
Although he says his wild look has grown on him a little, Alun is set to get the chop at DY8 Designs, Market Street, Stourbridge, on Tuesday June 16.
