MP Lynda Waltho is putting pressure on the government to stop the controversial import of Canadian seal products.
Mrs Waltho has written to the Department of Trade and Industry calling for a ban on the world's largest marine mammal hunt.
The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) has reported that 354,000 harp seals have been killed this year alone.
Shockingly, 97 per cent of the slaughtered animals were young pups, under three months old.
Lynda said: "I am appalled by the brutality involved and the fact that the UK is still importing products from a hunt which is both cruel and unnecessary.
"A UK ban on the import of harp and hooded seal products would send an important message to Canada that the UK wants no part in this hunt".
Other European countries, such as Italy and the Netherlands, have already made headway introducing legislation to end the trade in seal goods.
