STOURBRIDGE MP Lynda Waltho has voiced concerns about cuts in regional journalism.
Mrs Waltho has tabled a parliamentary motion calling for new investment to boost quality and integrity in an industry she says has been suffering from neglect.
Her concerns are echoed by the National Union of Journalists who say media corporations should think ahead rather than concentrating on quick profits.
Lynda said: "There have been redundancies and a lack of investment leaving the future of many highly respected and profitable titles in the balance."
NUJ general secretary, Jeremy Dear, said: "Fewer journalists, fewer editions and fewer pages coupled with less time to research in-depth stories on the key issues that affect us all - politics, health, education, community - make us all poorer."
