MANUFACTURING firms are being urged to enter the battle for the industry's oscars by Stourbridge MP Lynda Waltho.

Companies can compete for awards including best overall business, best sustainable manufacturer and product innovation in the Institution of Mechanical Engineers' Manufacturing Excellence Awards (MX) 2008.

Each firm that enters is entitled to a free, bespoke benchmark report offering top tips by a panel of experts on how to improve performance after filling in a self assessment audit.

Finalists for the awards will be invited to a glittering awards ceremony on June 26 at London's Dorchester Hotel.

Lynda said: "I hope to see as many companies as possible in Stourbridge enter the MX2008 as the competition is known as the national hallmark of best practice in manufacturing.

"Protecting the heritage of Black Country manufacturing and skills is a hugely important task and to support this I would encourage any firms, of any size, to enter."

The deadline is February 29 and firms interested in entering should visit www.mxawards.org
