Fighters weigh-in ahead of title clash

JASON Welborn and Frankie Gavin both made the weight ahead of their British welterweight title showdown tomorrow night.

The official weigh-in took place at Walsall Town Hall this afternoon, with belt holder Gavin weighing in just four ounces heavier than the challenger at 10st 6lbs 8ozs.

In little more than 24 hours time they will clash for the title at the same venue, with the fight broadcast live on BoxNation.

While Gavin, Britain’s only amateur world champion is used to media attention, the pre-fight hype has taken some getting used to for Rowley Regis-based Welborn who compared the experience to appearing on relaity TV show I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.

He said: “The attention this fight has got, it’s felt like I have been in the jungle.

“It’s really been an experience but I have enjoyed it.”
