A YOUNG Stourbridge footballer will grace the international stage after being selected for England schoolboys.

Kieran Morris, aged 17, will play for the England School Football Association’s under-18s squad in the upcoming Centenary Shield Championships.

The centre-half saw off competition from 120 other hopefuls to make the final squad of 16, playing in several trial games at Lilleshall National Sports Centre on the final selection weekend.

In a further boost, Morris was spotted by scouts for Brentford and played for the west London club’s youth team last weekend.

He said: “I’m chuffed and can’t wait to get going.

“They selected the best schoolboy players in the country and there was a series of games.

“The last game we played at Lilleshall was against the RAF. It was really tough but I’m proud to have been selected.”

Morris is a sports student at Stourbridge College and captains Stourbridge FC’s youth team, while he also plays for West Midlands county.

After travelling with the national squad for a training camp in Spain next month, the Centenary Shield begins in March and features games against Northern Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Ireland before a friendly against New Zealand.

Meanwhile, his hopes of making it as a professional have been reignited by the call from Brentford.

The former Stoke City and Shrewsbury Town academy player turned out for the Bees against Cardiff City last weekend and has been invited to further training sessions.
