Kings complete double win

KINGSWINFORD Hockey Club enjoyed a stellar weekend as they picked up two home wins.

Under the leadership of new skipper Ajay Sandhu, Kings defeated Leamington 3-2 on Saturday, before winning 6-2 against Old Wulfrunians 24 hours later.

Sandhu gave his side the perfect start against Leamington, slipping past two defenders before firing beyond the keeper to open the scoring.

However, the hosts then slacked off and the visitors grabbed a leveller before the break.

Leamington could have taken the lead early in the second period but missed a penalty stroke and were made to pay when Sandhu made no mistake from the spot at the other end.

The visitors looked to have secured a share of the spoils when they equalised again with five minutes remaining, only for Gary Oates to snatch a late winner for Kings.

By contrast, Sunday’s game was not nearly so dramatic, thanks in part to a superb second-half performance.

After 20 minutes of pressure, Kam Mann pounced on a loose ball to put Kings ahead but their advantage was quickly wiped out when a goalkeeping blunder allowed Old Wulfs to equalise.

Billy Jawanda restored the lead, only for Wulfs to again quickly hit back as the teams went in level 2-2 at the break.

But Kings hit the ground running after half-time, as quick goals from Colin Morris and skipper Sandhu opened up a two goal cushion.

Jawanda and Morris then completed their braces to put the result beyond doubt.

The seconds had less to celebrate as they were beaten 2-1 at West Bromwich despite Daman Johal fired Kings ahead.
