Knight set for Glassboys return

STRIKER Chris Knight will return to help Stourbridge FC’s Southern League Premier play-off push.

The Glassboys boosted their forward line at the weekend by snapping up hotshot Ben Mackey from St Neots Town.

And Knight, who played for Stour at the start of the season before taking a backseat due to work commitments, is now returning to boost their chase for second spot and home advantage in the play-offs.

Boss Gary Hackett said: “It was tough for Chris at the start of the season, he has fairly big work commitments and it was his first real crack at this level.

“But I have spoken to him and he will be coming back in after this Saturday’s game with Weymouth.

“At times earlier this season he was unstoppable and if he can re-find the same form it will give is a huge boost.”

Former Leamington and Brackley Town man Mackey, who has scored 23 goals for St Neots this season, sat out Saturday’s 0-0 draw in Cambridgeshire which moved the Glassboys up to second place.

He is likely to feature in Saturday’s home clash with fourth-placed Weymouth (kick-off 3pm), who are just a point behind Stour but have played a game more, as Luke Benbow remains suspended. Midfielder Sean Geddes is also doubtful with a bad ankle, while centre-back Nathan Bennett is battling a sore calf.

Hackett believes Mackey’s arrival will boost the whole club and revealed the hitman was “excited” by the challenge of playing for Stour.

He said: “No question this will raise people’s spirits.

“The key thing for me speaking to Ben and realising his hunger and determination to play for Stourbridge.

“We were alerted to the fact he was available and he said a lot of positive things about us.

“He is a proven goalscorer and is keen to get us into the play-off places at the very least.

“I think a strike partnership of Ben Mackey and Luke Benbow is one which will excite a lot of people.”
