OLD Hill skipper Danny Cox has been plying his trade with Herefordshire in the Minor Counties Western Division this summer.

It’s the third season that Cox has featured for Hereford and has been joined this time by Haden Hill team mate Nitesh Patel.

Still only 20 years old, Cox has a number of representative honours under his belt already including appearances for Loughborough MCCU, MCC, Midland Cricket Club Conference, Worcestershire at various age group levels and Staffordshire.

Cox said: “I got involved with Herefordshire because I know the coach Harshad Patel, who also turns out for Old Hill.

“He asked if I would be interested in playing, so I’ve taken a gap year from Loughborough University where I’m studying mathematics and sports science.

“Quite a number of the Herefordshire players turn out for Brockhampton in the Birmingham League, but others come from Oxford and London.

“It’s a good standard of cricket. “So far I’ve scored 80 not out and 52 against Devon and I also made 58 against Berkshire.

“We also play against Cheshire, Wiltshire, Cornwall, Oxfordshire, Shropshire, Dorset and Wales.

“Herefordshire don’t have a particular home base. We’ve played matches at Brockhampton, Eastnor and Colwall this season.

“We recorded our first win of the season last week, beating Dorset at Dean Park, but I didn’t get to bat much — so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I get selected for the next game.”
