Glassboys release Reds pair as new season approaches
11:46am Thursday 8th August 2013 in Sport
STOURBRIDGE have parted company with former Redditch United pair Jack Cresswell and Connor Deards.
Both players had spent pre-season with the Glassboys but failed to catch the eye of boss Gary Hackett.
He said: “I don’t think their style of play suited Stourbridge and I wish them both the best for the future.
“I’ve told them now because I don’t like to string players along.”
However, Hackett hasn’t ruled out adding further players to his squad — especially after a woeful performance against Halesowen Town which Stourbridge somehow managed to win 1-0.
Honest Hackett offered no excuses and said: “On the day, we were very poor. How we came away with a 1-0 win I’ll never know. “Halesowen were much the better side but our goal led a charmed life at times”.
Hackett added: “I won’t hesitate to bring players in if I think they can improve the side, even if it’s on the Friday night ahead of the opening Southern League game at AFC Totton.”
Stourbridge included Ben Billingham for the first time this pre-season at Halesowen as the midfield man continues his comeback from injury.
But Hackett without former Kidderminster Harrier Dean Bennett who has a calf strain.
Hackett also planned to run the rule over another former Harrier Michael Briscoe who is based in Stourbridge.
Briscoe was sidelined for most of last season through injury when with AFC Telford. He was previously with Tamworth.
Stourbridge look to complete their pre-season plans this Saturday with a trip to Skrill North club Solihull Moors.
