1:34pm Thursday 8th August 2013 in Sport
OLD Halesonians have been building up towards their much awaited debut in National Midlands League rugby this season with a trial match against Harborne-based Moseley Oak.
The Wassell Grove side fielded two teams throughout the contest which comprised of four 20 minute periods.
They have also arranged a friendly against National Two North side Bromsgrove on August 31 Halesonians mark their National League entry with a trip to Lymm in Cheshire on September 7.
Club spokesman Simon Hussey said: “We’re looking to take a large following of supporters to the game, which is unheard of for us. “We usually have around six or seven diehards at away games.
“But this is something we can start to look forward to. “We’ve already got a fan base approaching 200 for home games and that’s something we hope to build upon, especially with the likes of Nuneaton, Broadstreet, Bournville and Sutton Coldfield set to visit us this season.
“Lymm is the second longest trip we’ll make this season with Scunthorpe being the furthest.”
Training takes place every Tuesday and Thursday evening at Wassell Grove (6.45pm) under director of rugby Gary Cox, player-coach Mark Evans and backs coach Dan Lynne.
