Ten-men Tivvy seal superb cup success
5:20pm Thursday 22nd August 2013 in Sport
TEN-man Tividale clinched their place in the FA Cup preliminary round after pulling off an oustanding 3-0 success over fellow Midland Alliance front-runners Alvechurch.
Victory was made all the more sweeter after Tividale had full-back Andy Parsons sent off in the 24th minute for an alleged elbowing offence.
By that stage, Tividale were already 1-0 up through a Nathan Waite goal.
Tividale boss Stuart Scriven admitted he was tempted to reshuffle the side but decided to stick with two men up front.
The decision paid off as Ryan Winwood increased Tividale’s lead just before half time.
The outcome was settled after Waite struck for his second goal to make it 3-0 and the margin of victory should have been more after a thumping strike from Stuart How rattled Alvechurch’s crossbar, but stayed out.
Scriven said: “I couldn’t have asked for more from the players, the whole side played well to make it five wins out of five.
“Alvechurch were also unbeaten going into this game but I decided to keep Stuart How and Nathan Waite up front because they were causing so many problems. They just kept running and running.
“Even Alvechurch thought the sending off was harsh. It was a foul, nothing else, but we kept going against a very good Alvechurch side who do play good football.”
Tividale have now clinched a home tie with Wolverhampton Casuals in the next round.
This Saturday, Tividale travel to Leicestershire side Heather St Johns in a Midlands Alliance match.
Meanwhile, Gornal Athletic crashed out of the cup following a 2-1 home defeat to Ellesmere Rangers.
