Enville still in with a shout of promotion
10:40am Thursday 5th September 2013 in Sport
ENVILLE are still in with an outside chance of promotion to the top flight of Worcester County League cricket despite losing to Wormelow this week.
The result leaves Enville third in Division Two, some 21 points adrift of second placed Colwall with just two games left to play.
Enville piled on the runs against Wormelow to reach 248 for sevens thanks mainly to Matthew Branch who blitzed 85 while Tom Bingham added 40.
Mid-way through Wormelow’s reply, Enville looked well placed for victory having restricted them to 105 for five with Tom Bingham and Carl Bust taking two wickets apiece. But an unbroken stand of 144 between Ben Owens and Tom Bevan saw Wormelow home to a five wicket win.
Enville’s second string faced a daunting task after rivals Hagley posted a mammoth total of 329 for five, Ian Moss with 95 and Andy Shaw on 75 accounting for much of that total. However Enville dug deep in reply to reach 250 for nine at close, Trevor Spears scoring 85 and Chris Bate 54 not out after Andy Shaw had earlier taken five for 42.
Division Three champions Lye continue to sweep all before them after obtaining a seven wicket win at Alveley.
After Alveley had posted 183 all out, Lye responded with 187 for three with 13 overs in hand, Imran Riaz reaching 48 and James Webster 28 before Sakib Ali saw them home (55 not out).
Stourbridge Social made 200 all out against Malvern, Ikram Mussadaq topscoring with 71.
But Social were undone in reply by Richard Francis who steered Malvern to a seven wicket win with a magnificent 126 not out.
