12:27pm Thursday 5th September 2013 in Sport
HALESOWEN made certain of their Birmingham League Division Two status next season after crushing Coventry and North Warwicks by nine wickets.
The slow left arm of Mahroof Azam accounted for figures of four for 30 from his 10 over spell while Rameez Aziz picked up three for 23 following 8.5 overs of off-spin.
It leaves both bowlers on the 40-wicket mark this season as the pair combined to remove Coventry for a below par score of 141.
Halesowen suffered an early shock in reply when opener Mo Ishtiaq fell with just one run on the board, but then Aziz with 83 not out and Kester Moseley, who made an unbeaten 53, saw Halesowen home on 142 for one with a massive 22 overs to spare.
Skipper Wes Griffiths confirmed: “It’s a bit disappointing to see where we are in the league when we are capablle of producing performances like this.
“We’ve under performed this season with the side we’ve got and we shouldn’t have been involved in a relegation battle at all.
“We’ve beaten everyone in the bottom half of the table, which proves the table doesn’t lie!
Halesowen have the chance to finish the season on a high, They travel to champions Oswestry this Saturday and then host second placed Harborne.
Griffiths added: “We’ve got something to prove in these two games and I want to do well in them and take some momentum into next season”
