HALESOWEN kickboxer Simon “Mr KO” Akufo has been given the chance to clinch the World Kickboxing Association welterweight title in December.
Reigning European champion Akufo will have to defeat hardy Italian champion Cristian Tronu to become world champion for the second time.
Akufo will be going into battle with Tronu on Saturday, December 7 at Birmingham’s Q-Club in what promises to be one of the biggest kickboxing nights in Britain this year.
Akufo, aged 31, is determined to be world champion again after losing his belt in a brutal battle against Ilya Usachev last year.
He said: “I still see the world belt as my title, I made a mistake when I was at the top but I have learnt my lessons.
“I refused to quit so took a step back and am now ready to be world champion again, when I look at the mirror I still see a winner.
“I cannot wait to get back in the ring at world level again and show everyone that is where I belong to be.”
Italian champion Cristian Tronu fights out the of the world renowned Ferrari Gym in Calgiari, Sardinia, and has a reputation for devastating finishing power.
Former Windsor High School pupil Akufo said: “This will be a great fight, I know what the fans expect of me when they come to my fights and I am going to give it to them.
“People are used to big shows and this will be the biggest yet as the Q-Club is an incredible venue and we will have new pyrotechnics and tunes to make the night extra special.
“We will also have a great undercard, Aaron Robinson, who I beat in June for the European title in June is fighting as well as Brad Foster who will be fighting for a junior world title.”
