Heathens set sights on final spot
10:48am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Sport
DUDLEY Heathens will take on Isle of Wight over two consecutive Tuesdays in the National League play-off semi-finals.
After topping the National League table for the third time in four years, Heathens have opted to take on the Islanders for a place in the Grand Final after the Smallbrook side edged fourth spot ahead of Buxton on Sunday.
Now the former Cradley club will host the Islanders at Monmore Green in the first leg on Tuesday, September 24 before travelling to Ryde the following week.
The two clashes between the sides earlier in the season both yielded Dudley victories, but with four former Heathens riders in the Isle of Wight ranks two exciting meetings are in prospect.
Heathens boss Will Pottinger is confident his side can get the job done over two legs to reach the Grand Final for a second successive season.
Pottinger said: “We’re looking forward to taking on Isle of Wight, and after doing well at their place earlier in the season are feeling confident.
“We also obviously beat them convincingly at home, so hopefully we can do the same again to book our place in the final.
“We know those wins will count for nothing in the play-offs though, and we will have to be at our best to get the win over two legs.”
