THERE was silver success for Halesowen Athletics Club after the final race in the West Midlands Young Athletes Cross Country League on Sunday in Perry Park.

The league, which is deemed the strongest cross country league in the UK for the younger age group athletes saw Halesowen finish fifth on the day and second overall out of the 19 clubs involved.

Rugby and Northampton won the series followed by Halesowen and Wolverhampton and Bilston.

The under 15 girls demonstrated how they deserved the team gold medal with five athletes taking top 12 placings.

Birchfield’s Remi Flavell took the win in 12.52. There was a fight for the line for second, third and fourth which resulted in Haleowen’s Abigail Saker taking the fourth spot in 13.06. Katrina Simpson took seventh in 13.30, Lily Higgins ninth (13.43), Ellie Childs 10th (13.48) and Livvy Worth 12th (13.52). There were also solid performances fro Molly Kelly 24th (14.39), Sophie Falshaw 32nd (15.08), Chloe Chapman 50th (16.24), Megan Cadwallader 56th (16.44) and Erin Crofts 66th (17.33).

The Wolverhampton club’s results by age category were: U11 boys 4th; U11 girls 4th; U13 boys 6th; U 13 girls 10th; U15 boys 6th; U15 girls 1st; Under 17 men 2nd; U17 ladies 2nd
