Himley aiming for 2014 cup silverware

HIMLEY Cricket Club will be aiming to win some silverware during the 2014 campaign, says captain Greg Wright.

Wright thinks the team are more than capable of tasting trophy success in one of a number of the cup competitions they will be involved in.

He said: "It would be good if we could pick up some silverware this season. There are plenty of cup competition that we will be involved in so we will be aiming to get a run going.

"The club has had much success because of cup competitions in the past and we want to bring some of that success back."

He also wants the side to maintain a similar level of performance that gave them last year's fourth-place finish in what he thinks is a transition period for the club.

The coming season will again see Himley's development of young cricketers come to the fore.

The club will look for it's youngsters to step up to first team action due to the loss of Ben Smith, who has left due to his coaching commitments with Leicestershire, and wicketkeeper Jagbir Dhillon, who will now play for the second team.

Wright played down Himley's chances of title success and said he would be pleased if they could finish near to 2013's final standing.

"This is a transition period in terms of getting more youngsters through to the first team," he said. "It is something we have focused on heavily during the last two years and will continue to do the same this season as well.

"Last year we finished fourth so it would be good if we could be up near the top of the table once again and maintain that same level, especially with more young lads coming in."

Himley will start their Birmingham and District Premier League campaign at home to Dorridge this Saturday.
