KINVER Constitutional B lifted the Stourbridge and District Snooker League's Team Knock-out Cup by beating Amblecote Institute B.

While Cary Homer eventually found his touch on the colours to beat Graham Taylor, Mick Cook and Adam Sprague fought out a fine frame. When Mick looked likely to win the frame on the last four balls, his miss on the brown gave Adam the chance to clear up to win by 43 points.

Adam Coley cleared the last three balls to beat Tim Charnock by 19, and Sam Harrison just got the better of Steve Nicholls to win by 12, reducing Kinver’s advantage to ten points when the final frame began.

Finally, Kinver’s Steve Jones played really well, affording his opponent Matt Johnson only nine points, to enable Kinver to lift the cup for the first time. It’s been a fine season for Amblecote too, reaching this final after a joint second place finish in the First Division.

Wombourne beat Stourbridge Institute C in the Team Knock-out Plate Final.

The contest featured five frames of fluctuating fortunes. Carl Green was in top form for the Institute and John Cumiskey did well to restrict him to a 42 point victory.

By contrast, however, Wombourne’s John Wooldridge pulled further and further clear to win his frame by 62 points, to extend his team’s advantage to a lead of 42.

Bob Mason then played some excellent all-round snooker to beat the highest rated Institute player, Nick Aston, by 54 points. Harry Jones looked set to retrieve most of the leeway against Dave Flavell, only to see the Wombourne player fight back to lose by 24.

Wombourne’s Paul Tristram had a 72 point lead at the start of the final frame, but Simon Tyler fought back to such good effect that he could win with the last four balls remaining. A double-kiss on the brown gave Paul the chance he needed and he quickly did enough to secure the Plate. A great achievement for his team to follow on from their cup win the season before.

The runners-up, Stourbridge Institute C, finished third in the Second Division to complete a successful campaign too.

Brandhall Labour got the better of Baggeridge Social in the Three-a-side final.

Brandhall faced a difficult task conceding 126 points start to Baggeridge. Alan Hooper beat Luke Whale by 44 points but Chris Southall was held to a 17 point winning margin by Martin Collingridge, so Baggeridge still led by 65 going into the final frame.

Jason Hickman then compiled a superb break of 68 against Frankie Bennett and secured victory on the pink.

Premier Division Singles Final: Gavin Sloan (West Mids Police) 2, Karl Ashmore (Brandhall Labour) 4.

Amblecote Royal British Legion staged this year’s final which saw defending champion, Gavin Sloan lose 4-2 against the 2010 champion, Karl Ashmore. Karl took the black to win a tense opening frame and a run of 32 edged him into a 2-0 lead. Breaks of 36 and 43 helped Gavin to take the next two frames in decisive fashion, but Karl bounced back with a 38 and did enough in the sixth frame to take the match 4-2, enabling him to lift the cup once again.
