WITHYMOOR Colts Girls caused an upset in the final of the Central Warwick Under-13s Open League Cup final.

They made history by becoming the first Division One side to take home the trophy after beating Premier League outfit Sutton United.

The girls won 2-1 against Premier runners-up Sutton at Rugby Town Junior Football Club on Saturday, May 10.

The contest came alive after just four minutes when Sutton fired a ball past the Withymoor keeper.

However, Withymoor hit back within 10 minutes when a goal mouth scramble ended in Emily Graham slotting the ball home to endure the scores were level at the break.

The second half began with Withy attacking the Sutton goal. Then a moment of brilliance fit to win any final came when Charlie Fereday picked the ball up on the left wing and fired it over the Sutton keeper into the top corner.

Withymoor, with keeper Niamh Baker in fine form, then defended stoutly to secure the victory.

Manager Steve Attwood said: "They trained as a team, they played as a team and won as a team. The girls were truly remarkable and I'm extremely proud of them."
