HALESOWEN A & CC road rider Sam Dighton finished in a well deserved 12th place in the Stourbridge Road Race held on the Astley circuit over 70 miles last Sunday.

Dighton, 16, missed an earlier nine rider breakaway which stayed away to the finish but was part of a four man group which escaped the main field with one lap remaining, although the riders worked well together they were unable to catch the leaders.

The first year junior rider paid tribute to fellow Hales rider, Charles Walker, who helped prepare for counter attack. Sam is now well on track to secure his second category race licence which will help him gain selection for the Junior Tour of Wales due to be held August Bank Holiday.

Halesowen A & CC are now promoting a sportive cycle ride called the Halesowen One Hundred.

The event on August 24 is in conjunction with Sam Greatrex who is taking part in a ride around the world on behalf of Macmillan Cancer Support.

The sportive is cycling's version of a fun run. The ride will start of from Halesowen A & CC, Manor Abbey Sports Stadium, in groups from 8am.
