Heathens frustrated by the rain

First published in Sport

CRADLEY saw their clash with Mildenhall washed out after just one race at Monmore Green last night.

Track staff had worked tirelessly to get the meeting on after the circuit was hit by rain earlier in the day before a heavy downpour shortly after the meeting got underway caused the match to be abandoned.

Paul Starke led a Heathens heat advantage in an incident-packed opening race before heat two was stopped following a fall on the opening lap.

It was just before the second race was due to be rerun that the rain struck once again before referee Jim Lawrence opted to call a halt to proceedings having conversed with riders from both clubs.

Cradley boss Will Pottinger admitted it was a hugely frustrating night.

He said: "After getting the meeting started we were all desperate to try and make sure we got through to the end.

"Unfortunately the track had already taken some rain earlier in the day, and when it started to rain again there wasn't much we could do.

"It's very frustrating for everyone, but there's nothing we can do about it and we've just got to focus on the meeting at Mildenhall on Sunday now."
