Yeltz slip to second defeat of season

Witton Albion 2, Halesowen Towen 0

HALESOWEN departed Cheshire empty handed last night, as a well-organised Witton side claimed a 2-0 victory over the Yeltz, writes Reece Charlton.

Halesowen made two changes to the line-up that lost to Blyth on Saturday, as Peter Till and Aaron Forde were both replaced by Iyseden Christie and Neil Mackenzie.

The Yeltz got off to a good start, as Mackenzie's shot just flew wide of the left post, and Ben Haseley's goal bound header was acrobatically saved by Chris Sanna, as he just tipped the ball past the post.

But the second half was a different affair for Halesowen, as Witton came out all guns blazing and they were rewarded 7 minutes in. Josh Hancock marked his return to Albion as he gathered the ball outside the 18 yard box and he smashed a low shot into the bottom left hand corner of the net.

Witton looked more threatening by the minute, as Danny Andrews' curling free kick flew straight into the hands of Matt Sargeant, and Matt Sargeant make an unreal diving save to deny Neil Harvey's goal bound effort.

But Harvey killed the game off with 5 minutes remaining, as Joe Hull's attempted back pass set up the Witton Forward and he powered the ball under Sargeant and he watched the ball ripple the back of the net.

The Yeltz tried to fight back, but the strength and organisation of Albion's back four was too much for Halesowen, and their determination in the closing stages came to nothing in the end as they left the pitch with a 2-0 defeat on their hands and hoping that they can bounce back with a win against Workington on Saturday.

Halesowen: Sargeant, Green, Charlton, Mackenzie (Lait), Hull, Tilt, Bragoli, Tonks, Christie, Haseley (Thompson-Brown), Griffiths (Turner).

Witton: Sanna, Moyo, Lea, Harrison, Gardner, Powell (Titchiner), Hancock (Dawson), Davidson, Harvey, Howard, Andrews.
