GORNAL Athletic continued their fine form with a 4-2 away win over Bewdley last Saturday.

They have gone nine games without defeat to lift themselves into fifth place in the West Midlands League.

Boss Andy Wyton praised his side for doing enough to get another three points towards their promotion quest.

He said: "We played well and should have been even more comfortable. The main thing was the players did enough to get the win.

"We just need to maintain this form and continue to build and improve. We are playing really well at the moment and confidence is high."

Against Bewdley, the Peacocks had the first attack when winning a free kick on the edge on the box, but the resulting effort on goal was hit straight at the keeper.

Bewdley took control after five minutes and went close when hitting a shot just over the bar from the edge of the area.

For 15 minutes Bewdley bossed the game but couldn't take the lead.

FInally, Gornal came to life and started to have a impact on the game. A great run from Jason Chilton on 17 minutes was followed by good link up with Scott Devlin. His cross was met by Geoff Hill who shot wide.

Gornal finally broke the deadlock on 32 minutes when Brett Mcguiligan played in Tom Piggot who rounded the keeper before to slotting the ball into an empty net.

Within three minutes Gornal had doubled their lead. A shot from Piggot rebounded off the keeper and landed at the feet of Ross Love to tap in.

Despite Bewdley looking dangerous on the break, it was Gornal that made it three before the break.

A counter attack from the visitors resulted in Piggot curling the ball into the top corner from 30 yards.

Bewdley started the second half the better of the two side and hit two in five minutes to make it 2-3.

However, Gornal slowly got back into the game and eventually completed the scoring when Piggot was tripped in the box to win a 76th minute penalty. He got to his feet to dispatch the spot kick into the bottomcorner.
