GORNAL Athletic's 15 game unbeaten run came to a shuddering halt with what manager Andy Wyton described as the worst performance since he took charge.

A first half strike was enough to give Wellington a 1-0home victory last Saturday.

Wyton said: "I didn't expect us to play that bad after the run we have been on.

"I think the players got over confident. We didn't work their goalkeeper enough and I think it was the worst performance I have seen during my time as manager."

However, with an important run of games on the horizon, Wyton wants his players to react in the right manner and return to winning was as soon as possible.

"We have been really good and worked very hard in most of our games," added Wyton. "Hopefully last Saturday's result will act as a wake up call for us. Success is far from guaranteed in this league and we have to look to return to form quickly."

The Peacocks were set to take on Wednesfield at Garden Walk last night before Saturday's contest with Thurnby Nirvana in the second round proper of the FA Vase.

Meanwhile, Gornal have been rocked by the news that Dreniz Bala will be leaving the club.

The forward has made it clear he no longer wants to play for Athletic and should complete a move away soon.

Scott Devlin has also left Garden Walk to join Studley.
