GORNAL Athletic boss Andy Wyton says he is keen to assess the club's young players in the final weeks of the campaign.

The manager at Garden Walk thinks giving youth a chance could be the way forwards as he looks to build towards next season.

Bringing young players through has already proved fruitful with the likes of Liam Hickman and Greg Corbett featuring regularly.

Wyton said: "I will now be looking hard at the club's under 18s. They will continue to train with us and a few will be given chances in the first team.

"I think bringing in a few young players is the way to go for a club like Gornal and is something we need to do more of.

"We already have a couple of lads in the side and if we can find a few more it will really help us build for next season."

Athletic returned to winning ways in the league by beating Bilston Town Community 4-0 away on Saturday.

A hat-trick from forward Dreniz Bala and a strike from substitute Steve Jones secured all three points.

"We got back to basics, won our battles and then our quality came through," added Wyton.

"It was a good result and keeps us on track to finish the season well. The title is probably beyond us now but I want to finish second."

Meanwhile, winger James Baldwin has now left the club to join Stourport Swifts. He played just four games for the Peacocks after arriving from Bewdley.

Gornal now will welcome local rivals Cradley Town to Garden Walk this Saturday.
