STOURBRIDGE RFC has been celebrating the success of their young players after another big end-of-season win.

The Stourton Park club’s Under 9s were in battling form to claim victory at the Luctonians Anglo-Welsh Festival, one of the most prestigious events in the regional rugby calendar.

A squad of nine players from Stourbridge won three of their four group games before taking on a side from the home club in the semi-finals.

Stourbridge’s superior scoring record in the group games meant a draw would put them into the final and the nil-nil half-time scoreline looked good enough.

A try by Luctionians with just a minute to go however put Stourbridge in jeopardy but the blue and white’s scored with the last play of the game to book their place against Malvern in the final.

Once again the Black Country boys left it late to grab a winner after Malvern drew level with just seconds left on the clock.

Stourbridge RFC junior rugby coach, Tom Skinner, said: “It seemed like an eternity until the referee took his whistle to his lips and blow but he did. Cue relief and scenes that I will never forget, the boys had won and in style.”
