SEDGLEY White Lion won the Dudley and Cradley League's Harry Downing Trophy with victory over Halesowen Members.

Sedgley won 4-0 last Thursday at Dudley Sports' Hillcrest Avenue ground.

The start of the game was very even with both teams creating chances but neither able to finish.

On 14 minutes, Sedgley broke down the left, Steven Weaver swung the ball in across the Halesowen goalmouth and a diving header from Aaron Gordon at the back post flew in to the back of the net.

Sedgley doubled their advantage in the 29th minute after Steven Weaver converted from the penalty spot.

The start of the second half was similar to the end of the first with both teams creating half chance but unable to find the killer touch.

On 57 minutes, the game was really settled when a Sedgley break was completed by Jack Kelly.

Sedgley wrapped up proceeding on 73 minutes when Weaver completed a well worked move.

Meanwhile, in the John Higham Trophy final, which took place last Sunday, Coseley Tavern bagged more cup joy with a 3-0 win over Barley Mow Wanderers.

The result does not reflect the way this game was played, both teams worked hard straight from the kick off and gave the neutrals an excellent game.

The contest was also notable for Kim Reid becoming the first female to officiate in a Dudley and Cradley Heath League Cup final when she ran the line.

Barley Mow were 1-0 down after just 32 seconds. Ben Scriven for Coseley intercepted a pass before putting an inch perfect ball to Stuart Hillman. Hed then lobbed keeper Nick Moczaldo.

The game started to settle down and Barley Mow slowly drew themselves back in to the game with both teams starting to create chances as the ball was going from end to end.

On 23 minutes, Stuart Hillman hit a 25 yard shot that flew past the post.

In the 34th minute, with Barley Mow still well in the match, they had to thank Moczaldo when a Coseley free kick was whipped in and a goal bound header from Hillman was tipped over the bar with an excellent save.

As the half time interval approached, Hillman picked the ball up for Coseley and played in Luke Jenkinson who took a touch and fired it in to double his side's advantage at the break.

Coseley bagged their third of the game in the 55th minute when Hillman chipped in after another break away. The goal came on the back of an excellent save at the other end from Tavern keeper Terry Shaw.
