LYE Town will be looking for a bumper crowd when they take on Birmingham City next Tuesday night in the Birmingham Senior Cup quarter finals.

Blues have already indicated they are likely to send their Development Squad - but Lye chairman Brian Blakemore is taking nothing for granted and said: "There's sure to be plenty of talent on display and they will set us a stern test - but we are really looking forward to the game."

Lye lost out last Saturday when their Midland League trip to Shepshed Dynamo was called off owing to both a flooded and frozen pitch.

Lye play hosts to Hereford side Westfields this Saturday in the Midland League and Blakemore added: "It will be good to get a game at Stourbridge Road. We haven't played a home game this month but the prospects don't look good as heavy rain is forecast for Friday."

Defender Brad Smith has left Lye to join local rivals Tividale after struggling to make an impact at Stourbridge Road this season.

Blakemore confirmed: "Brad has only made one start for us so far this season and has mostly been on the bench. He's only a young lad and needs to get games under his belt, so the switch to Tividale should do him good."

Lye have been handed a tough tie in the Midland League Cup with a trip to Sporting Khalsa on March 8 after knocking out Coventry Copsewood in the previous round.
