JASON Welborn knows it is now or never as he targets the likes of Bradley Skeete and Stourbridge’s Sam Eggington in his pursuit of the British welterweight title.

The Rowley Regis fighter has twice fallen just short in his bid for the Lonsdale belt, against Frankie Gavin at welterweight and Liam Smith at super-welterweight.

However, the 29-year-old has certainly not given up hope of landing a major title and is now has some big names in the division in his sights.

“I’m able to train twice a day and prioritise boxing now,” he said ahead of his second fight in as many months on Hatton Promotions’ St George’s Day Clash at The Deco in Northampton this Saturday.

“It feels like I’m a full-time boxer, which is what you need if you’re going to get to that level. It’s now or never for me.

“I’m not waiting around. I want big names and titles.

“Skeete has the British and Commonwealth titles and I’d love that fight. There are other names out there too, including Sam Eggington, who Skeete won the titles from. That would be a big local fight to get people talking.”

Welborn has now put work and family commitments to one side as he battled to achieve his dream.

“I’ve got time off from work, with my sponsors, and I’ve got a dietician and the weight is coming off a treat so I can see how get on back down at welter.

“The dietician I’m working with now is great. He phones me every day to monitor my weight, water intake etc. My fiancee Rachel does the cooking. She works full-time, then comes home and does my cooking. It will be worth it in the long-term though.”

Welborn’s immediate future will first see him contest a six-rounder this Saturday as he looks to take further strides towards a future title tilt. He is set to join the likes of Pauly Upton, Reuben Arrowsmith and Zach Parker on the bill in Northampton.

It is a quick return to the ring for Welborn after out-pointing Adam Jones in Walsall last month.

“I feel strong at the moment and think I’ll be a really big threat at welterweight,” he added.

Tickets, priced at £30, £35 and £40, can be purchased from any fighter on the bill or by calling 07718 324102.
