HIMLEY chairman Gordon Lewis feels it’s vital his side maintain their momentum during the second half of the season.

They secured back-to-back victories thanks to a three-wicket win against Wellington on Saturday to keep the pressure firmly on those ahead of them in Division One of the Birmingham and District Premier League.

Himley are sitting in fourth place at the moment but in prime position to mount a promotion push towards the business end of the campaign.

Lewis said: “I never really felt we lost our momentum even when we lost a couple games. We have always had confidence and belief in ourselves and nothing changed.

“The two recent wins make sure we are in a good position now we’re into the second half of the season. You would always like to be at the top and in control, but we are handily placed and can hopefully stay in the shake-up.

“We just need to keep our momentum going and I feel that we can.

“This league is very competitive and we are sure to lose a few more games as the season goes on, like many teams will. But you just have to move on quickly when that happens and don’t let it affect you.”

Himley bowled Wellington out for just 159 after winning the toss and putting their visitors into bat at Stourbridge Road.

Last week’s star man Jamie Turner again struck with the ball to remove dangerous opener Joe Clarke for just 17.

Chris Boroughs then got in on the act to send Dan Vaughan packing for nine.

Wickets continued to fall as the hosts piled on some early pressure.

However, a solid 65 from 100 balls from Wellington’s Wendell Wagner offered some resistance before Stuart Wedge had him caught.

Boroughs ran out Matt Stinson in the final over.

When Wagner bowled Will Fraine for a duck it looked like it could be a tricky afternoon for the hosts.

But good contributions from Greg Wright (22), Boroughs (40) and returning Worcestershire man Tom Kohler-Cadmore (38) put Himley in control.

An unbeaten 32 from Smith then helped Himley to their target in the 35th over for the loss of seven wickets.

“We bowled very well as a unit,” added Lewis. “The wickets eventually came our way early on but it was all about restricting them.

“We then batted well to make sure we were always in control.”

Kohler-Cadmore looked in great nick before playing a loose shot and Chris Boroughs batted and bowled well.

“Once again, Ben (Smith) was there to guide us home.”

Himley will look to maintain their promotion push at Barnards Green this Saturday. Smith’s men will be looking to set the record straight against a side that beat them earlier this season.
