HALESOWEN Cricket Club chairman Richard Evans promised a review into their crushing defeat against Harborne last weekend.

They were skittled out for just 66, with only captain Wes Griffiths and Hassan Quami reaching double figures at Seth Somers Park.

The visitors then strolled to victory by nine-wickets on what was very much an afternoon to forget for Halesowen.

The humbling result leaves Halesowen mid table in the Birmingham and District League Division Two – and Evans has called on the side to issue a response when they travel to Stourbridge on Saturday (12 noon).

“There were a number of things about this weekend’s performance that need reviewing,” Evans said.

“However, we have been here before around this time last season, and we tidied up some areas of our cricket and came strong again in the run-in.

“Now is the time for clear thinking and calm heads as it is these kinds of periods where you learn lots about each other and their desire to take up the challenges we face over the second half of the season.”

The Second XI also saw their recent good form come to an abrupt end with a 56-run defeat against Harborne.

Spinners Carl Bust (4-62) and Mohammad Shauib (3-48) restricted Harborne to 195-9 from their 50 overs.

However, a top order collapse saw Halesowen fall to 28-4 in reply, and although Deon Patel (61) and Richard Cox (28) put up some resistance they were eventually bowled out for 139.

It was a disappointing afternoon which leaves them in the relegation zone heading into a crucial spell of matches – starting as they host Himley this Saturday (12.30).

On a difficult week for the club, the Third XI proved the shining light with a tremendous win over Alveley CC.

John Aston struck 88* and received support from a number of sources as they chased down a big total of 244 with just five balls to spare.

Meanwhile, the Fourth XI slipped to second in the table with a nine-wicket defeat against Barnards Green.

The Third XI will travel to Stourport on Saturday (1pm) whilst the Fourth XI will look to bounce back at home against Stourport (1pm).
