MANAGER Martin Thomas cannot wait for Lye Town’s long-awaited homecoming, despite believing it will feel like another road trip.

Town host Rocester on Saturday (3pm) after kicking off their Midland League campaign with five away days due to Lye Cricket Club finishing their season at their Stourbridge Road headquarters.

Thomas said: “It has been a long time coming and the first one will still feel like an away game. We haven’t played there since April 30 and the first time we will get on our pitch will be Thursday at training.

“That’s what happens at Lye. It doesn’t help and gets frustrating when you cannot play at home but you just have to get on with it.”

Despite the disadvantage, Lye have 10 points on the board after a mixed Bank Holiday weekend, losing 3-0 at Sporting Khalsa before Jack Pearlman’s double saw off Tividale 2-0 on Monday.

“Khalsa’s best player was their goalkeeper,” said Thomas. “We should have been 2-0 up but in the blink of an eye, we were two down.

“He made four or five really good saves and we paid the price for a couple of mistakes. That’s how cruel football can be and you just have to move on.

“If you don’t put away your chances, you get nothing. Fair play to Khalsa, they capitalised on a couple of mistakes.

“Tividale was a funny game. We didn’t feel troubled but we didn’t trouble them.

“Jack (Pearlman) was a doubt with a bit of a sore groin so it was pleasing. He could have had a hat-trick but the goalkeeper fished one out with a minute to go.”

Meanwhile, Thomas confirmed his intention to be active in the transfer market in the coming days.

“We have one or two (deals) in the pipeline from our level or higher but nothing I expect to happen in time for the weekend,” he added.

Full-back Matt Johnson is set to resume training this week but remains a doubt for Saturday.
