ANDY Sutton will step down as Barnt Green skipper after four years in charge.

He bows out on a winning note following a thrilling last ball victory over Kenilworth Wardens in the Birmingham League Premier.

But Sutton found it hard to hide his frustration over the lack of availability from some of his leading players.

Sutton admitted: "Availability has been a big issue, not just this season either. When we've been at full strength, we've been very dominating. But it's been very difficult when you have to keep on filling the side with 15 and 16 year olds because someone's dropped out.

"Now I feel it's time for a fresh captain with fresh ideas!

Saturday's trip to Wardens was no exception with Josh Poysden, Matt Lamb and Ed Pollock all on duty with Warwickshire at the Royal London Cup Final.

Sutton also had to contend with the loss of Luke Radford ruled out through injury while Tom Brown and Will Baker were unavailable.

They missed a cracking contest as the Green chased down Wardens total of 182 all out when finishing on 183 for four as Sutton and Darrel Williams ran a leg bye off the final ball.

Sutton revealed: "I missed the last ball altogether, but we'd already decided to run. Luckily for us, Wardens' wicketkeeper missed the stumps!

Sutton underlined his worth to Barnt Green by taking four for 23 and then making 54 not out after Sam Cheshire had struck 61.
