WOLLASTON Lawn Tennis Club (WLTC) produced another day of superb tennis as its members competed in finals day of its 2016 Annual Club Championships.

Over six hours of tennis saw eight adult finals and five Junior Finals all being contested at the Prestwood Drive Club.

Dave Edwards won the Mens Singles Championship beating last years Champion Adam Tranter.

The match was won 6-4, 6-4 with only one break of serve in each set. Edwards has now notched up 14 Mens Singles titles since his first in 1999.

The Ladies Singles Final was won by former winner Margaret Kodz who now holds two Singles Titles.

Kodz won a very tight final, winning 6-4 in the deciding set to first time finalist Jane Fox.

The Mens Doubles Final was won by last years runners up Adam Tranter and Noah Crampton. This year the pair were able to go one better in beating Colin Brown and Richard Such 6-4, 6-4. The Ladies Doubles was won again by Hannah Didlock and Yvonne Tivey overcoming fellow Ladies A team team mates Katy Piller and Becky Yates in a straight sets win.

The Mixed Final saw Dave Edwards and Amy Fellows playing against Adam Tranter and Katy Piller. This time Dave and Amy managed to triumph although the match went to a deciding set in what was a tight final with some great rallies.

In the Plate tournament, Shaun Ryger took the Mens Singles final 6-3, 6-3 against Paul Adams. This was the first time both players had played in a final and it proved to be a match on long rallies. Ryger and Adams also teamed together to take the Mens Doubles Plate.

In the Ladies Doubles Chris Armstrong and Pat Bailey won a tight final against Pam Cartwright and Lou Cornell with Armstrong and Bailey coming from one set down to take the decider 6-3.

Armstrong then went on to win her second final of the afternoon, this time winning the Mixed Plate Final with partner Max Bywater. The pair managed to beat Mick Trollope and Margaret Kodz in another close encounter.

WLTC Juniors also had a great afternoon of top tennis - In the Senior Boys Tournament, last year's winner Joseph Webb managed to retain his title with a tight match against Theo Shinton. The Senior Girl's Final saw Emily White achieve a victory over Alex Solecki in three sets, a repeat of last years final.

Michael Scriven took the Intermediate Boys Title with a straight sets win over Oliver Heaton. In the Junior Boys Harvey Parsons won in a tight three set battle against Charlie Nicholls who was playing in his first Junior Club Championships.

The afternoon rounded off with the Junior Mixed Final where Joseph Webb and Alex Solecki overcame Theo Shinton and Emily White to take the title in another match that went to a deciding set.

Chairman John Cutler said "This was another wonderful finals day for WLTC. Over six hours of competitive high quality tennis played with both the Junior and Adults taking place. It is always one of the highlights of the year."
