THE boxing world was in shock tonight after Oldbury boxer Craig Cunningham pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the year.

Cunningham beat undefeated Team GB star and world title tipped Anthony Ogogo in Birmingham live on Sky TV before Stourbridge's Sam Eggington beat Frankie Gavin.

It was the biggest night of Cunningham 's career and underdog controlled the fight from start to finish, knocking down Ogogo in the second round with a brilliant combination of straight lefts then a thunderous hook which sent him crashing to the canvas.

The southpaw then picked off the Norfolk star at will until the London 2012 bronze medalist quit during the 8th round after the referee stopped the fight for Ogogo's gloves to be fixed.

As it dawned on the 27-year-old (16-1) Ogogo had given up he screamed into the sky in delight as the crowd roared their appreciation of the local fighter's achievement as the normally unruffled Eddie Hearn, Ogogo's promoter, looked as if he had seen a ghost.

Cunningham, who won the boxer of the year award at the Midlands Boxing Awards last week now is the proud holder of the WBC international middleweight title.

Speaking about his shock how the fight ended the 27-year-old said: "You can't teach heart, can you?"

And the victor was open giving the stuttering star a rematch, saying "I will fight anyone.

"I am on top of the world and it is an unbelievable feeling.

"I love been the underdog, nothing fazes me, I just want to win big fights."

Cunningham had predicted he could win by knock out and was delighted how the opening skirmishes panned out.

He said: "I felt I could beat him to the jab, and when I got in there I realised I could.

"My knockout record ain't great but I catch someone and they are going down, and that showed tonight."
