LYE have continued their great league form with bottom of the table Brocton being the latest team to face the Town juggernaut.

With their fourth win on the bounce, Town became join leaders in the Midlands League after a 3-1 victory on Saturday against Brocton at their Stourbridge Road ground.

Co-boss Martin Thomas said he felt the score-line flattered the opposition. He said: “Brocton are not a bottom of the table side. They are a decent side who are not having the rub of the green this season, but saying that the score line flattered them.

“We should have scored five or six really, but didn’t take our chances. We can’t have any complaints though because our lads are playing really well at the moment.

“If they keep the momentum up we should be challenging come the end of the season, which is what’s important as you don’t win the league in November.

“It’s a shame we don’t have cup games to keep us going but it does help the lads focus on the league.

“The players are doing well and if you take the cup games out of it we have only had one defeat this season which just shows the talent we have in the side.

“Last season we went 18 games undefeated so if you add that to what we’ve done this season, we have one hell of a record.”

Town, who sit behind Alvechurch in the league standings on goal difference with both teams on 38 points, now face another home tie on Saturday (3pm), this time out against Coventry Sphinx.

Thomas said: “This will be a tough game, but they all are in the league. They will be coming to us looking at picking up a scalp as we’re a top three or four side now.

“Every team will be looking at Lye as a team they want to beat.

“But we used to be like that when we first came into the league. You pick your game up especially when you go away to one of the bigger teams, so we have to be prepared for that.”

Thomas is waiting on the fitness of Dan Jones (quad) and James Spray (hip) for this weekend’s match, while Chris Knight (groin and back) is expected back in training soon and Kalum Evitts (ankle) is out until after Christmas.
