DUDLEY Kingswinford bagged their first away win of the season with victory at Moseley Oak.

DK secured a hard-fought 32-26 win on the road to push themselves closer to the security of mid-table in Midlands One West.

Tries from Liam Marshall, Danny Hawkins, Duncan Tompkins, Luke Greenwood and Will Brown handed DK a much-needed bonus point success.

Two of the scores were converted by Duncan Tompkins, who also added a penalty late on as the visitors got the job done.

The win pleased director of rugby Neil Shillingford. He said: "It wasn't our best performance and a few players had off days, but the main thing was that we got the win.

"I think we managed the game really well after we changed things.

"They have a heavy pack and were keen to play from one set-piece to the next. Once again we fell into the trap a little early on until we added some pace to the game and caused them problems.

"Overall it was very much a case of mission accomplished to get the bonus point win away from home."

The victory lifts DK to eighth place in the league and hands them a confidence boost ahead of this Saturday's home clash with table-toppers Newport (Salop).

The visitors to Heathbrook (2.15pm kick-off) are the only unbeaten side this campaign and recently knocked Shillingford's men out of the North Mids Cup.

However, the coach thinks that game offered his team hope of taking something from the clash.

He added: "We know we'll have to be on our game because they are a very good side. But we played them in the cup recently and we won't fear them.

"We have nothing to lose really and can hopefully look to take something from the game. Even if it's a losing bonus point, a try bonus point or the win, our players have already shown they have it in them to make sure they get something. It is important we do that.

"If we can now start to take points of those teams above us then it will help us heading into the second part of the season."

Shillingford says he may have to make a few changes on Saturday due to player absence but will assess his options after this week's training sessions.
