OLDBURY middleweight Craig Cunningham will fight for Tommy Langford's British crown in April.

Fresh from his upset of former Olympic medallist Anthony Ogogo in Birmingham in October, the 28-year-old has been rewarded with a big title shot in 2017.

The clash will top the bill for Frank Warren’s show at the Leicester Arena on Saturday, April 22 and will be broadcast on BT Sport and BoxNation.

The southpaw earned his chance thanks to his brilliant Ogogo victory, which came on the same card that saw Stourbridge welterweight Sam Eggington bag the scalp of rival Frankie Gavin.

It was the biggest night of Cunningham 's career and the underdog controlled the fight from start to finish, knocking down Ogogo in the second round with a brilliant combination.

The left-hander then picked off the Norfolk star until the London 2012 bronze medalist quit during the eighth round with a fractured eye socket.

Prior to that, Cunningham had become a two-weight area champion after a points win over Jason Welborn at super-welterweight and a middleweight defence against Dudley's Ryan Aston.

He now comes head-to-head with unbeaten Langford, who secured the British belt with a points win over Sam Sheedy back in November.

Both fighters are based in the second city. Cunningham is under the tutelage of Jon Pegg at Eastside with Langford at Hall Green with Tom Chaney.
