MANAGER Tony Gore was full of praise for his Dudley Sports players after a “faultless” performance saw them claim victory against Pegasus Juniors.

Following a narrow 2-1 defeat to relegation-threatened rivals Dudley Town on Tuesday, Sports took a big stride towards their own safety with a 2-0 win over high-flying Pegasus.

Gore said: “Even though we lost on Tuesday to Dudley Town I thought we deserved something from the game.

“It was such a tight match and I don’t think either team would have complained with a draw, but on Saturday we were outstanding.

“Most people probably wouldn’t have expected us to get a win in that game, but the players were faultless.

“They all worked hard, the togetherness they showed was first class and we thoroughly deserved to win the three points. The dressing room was rocking both before and after the game.

“The win gives us a cushion over Wellington at the bottom, but there is still a lot to play for.”

This week's results leave Sports sitting in 18th in the WMRL Premier Division table, but Gore believes that if his team continue play like they did against Pegasus they will avoid the drop.

He said: “We have a trip to Ellesmere Rangers on Saturday and this will be another tough game – they always are when you go down to Ellesmere – but the players’ confidence is high after their performances in the past three games.

“We always think we can go and get the three points and Saturday will be no different.”

The side will be without a couple of key players for their trip to Shropshire as Bradley Welding and Lewis Phillips are at a wedding, and Tom Watkins has work commitments.

However, Mark Gore is back from injury and is expected to re-join the squad.

Gore added: “Those guys will be a big miss and after results like Saturday you always want to keep a consistent side.

“But it will give some of the other players an opportunity to stake their claim, and Mark being back from injury will definitely make a difference to us.”
