DUDLEY Town boss Andy Allardice said he is pleased with his side’s recent performances despite a mixed week of results.

The Robbins were routed 4-0 on Saturday against league leaders Haughmond, but did pick up an all important victory in their “six-pointer” against relegation rivals Dudley Sports on Tuesday night.

Allardice said: “It was a great three points against Sports. It was a six-pointer and a must win game. But it will be the same again in a couple of weeks when we play them again.

“They [Sports] had a good win at the weekend and closed the gap, but we just have to persevere and try to pick up the points when we can.

“We had a good win on Tuesday, we stuck to the tactics and came out on top. They scored with five minutes to go which made the end of the game more nervous than we would have liked. But I was very happy with the performance.

“We always knew it would be a struggle against Haughmond because they are at the top of the table for a reason.

“We told our lads to relax and try their best as we know staying up won’t come down to games like this.

“We did well to match them for a lot of the game, but in the last 30 minutes their quality showed and they got three goals which we couldn’t do much about.

“Our first choice keeper was out for the game so we put Shawn Clowes in goal out of the youth team. He’s only 17 but he did very well for himself.”

Town face another tough fixture this weekend as they head to another promotion hopeful in Wolverhampton Sporting Community.

“We have had some very hard fixtures of late and they keep on coming,” Allardice said. “But we know how many points we need to stay up so it’s not all about winning every game.

“If we can pick up at least four points from our next six games I think that should be enough to see us safe.

“We will be going there with a similar plan as last weekend to try and frustrate them but Wolverhampton Sporting have some quality players and a great manager, so we will see what happens.”

Leon Naylor will be missing this weekend after being rushed to hospital last week with an infection to the brain.

Allardice added: “All of us at Dudley Town wish Leon well and hope he has a speedy recovery. Luckily it was caught early.

“We don’t know when he might be back playing for us, but what’s more important is his health.”
