GLASSBOYS boss Gary Hackett has praised "midfield warriors" Tom Tonks and Leon Broadhurst for helping Stourbridge maintain their play-off push.

Stour have been hit by a host of injury troubles ever since their historic FA Cup run this campaign but continued their promotion fight with a vital 3-1 win over Ilkeston on Monday night.

Late goals from Luke Benbow, Luke Rodgers and Dan Preston saw them come from behind to bag the points.

Hackett has bolstered his squad again this week with four new arrivals but made sure to highlight the work of central midfield duo Tonks and Broadhurst.

He said: "It maybe doesn't feel like we're playing that well at times but then you look at our results and see we've won five and drawn one of our last seven games.

"That is down to the resilience of the players, especially the two midfield warriors of Tom Tonks and Leon Broadhurst.

"With all the injuries going on around them they have been in their fighting all season and have shown a fantastic attitude and consistency."

The Glassboys were boosted ahead of Monday's success with the arrival of defender Liam Slade and midfielder Kennedy Digie.

Slade, 21, who was born in Stourbridge, joins from rivals Halesowen Town.

With continued injuries depriving Hackett of Jack Duggan, Stuart Pierpoint, Richard Sho-Silva and Chris Knight, Slade will provide some much-needed reinforcement in the defensive ranks.

Meanwhile, injuries have also bitten elsewhere, with Chris Lait and Kayelden Brown all struggling for fitness, so the arrival of 20-year-old Digie on loan from Kidderminster Harriers will be equally welcome.

Those new additions follow the arrival of Josh Cooke and Myles Arnold to Amblecote.

Hackett was pleased with the win against Ilkeston but admits his new players will have to gel quickly ahead of the final seven fixtures, starting with Grantham Town's visit to the War Memorial Ground this Saturday (3pm kick-off).

"People looking at the table will think we should be beating Ilkeston but when you look at their recent results you'll see they have had some very close games.

"We dominated possession but they went up the pitch and scored from a free-kick. That can happen in football but the main thing was we settled down and showed the patience we needed. In the end I think we could have scored even more.

"We have had to reinvent the team since the Wycombe game and the new lads have no choice but to hit the ground running. We have seven cup finals coming up now and they are going to have to come together quickly.

"Grantham will be a tough test again and we need to be ready for that."

The boss has confirmed the season is over for Chris Lait, Jack Duggan and Chris Knight due to injury but is hoping Sho-Silva, Brown and Pierpoint may recover to feature this weekend.
