CHARLOTTE Bardsley returned from the Belgium Junior and Cadet Table Tennis Open with two bronze medals.
The 14-year-old Stourbridge player, who attends Heathfield School in Kidderminster, won her medals in the Cadet team and doubles events, reaching the semi-finals of both playing alongside India’s Vanshika Bhargava.
In the team competition, they were defeated 3-1 by eventual silver medallists Hungary A, represented by Helga Dari and Anita Drabant, despite Bardsley winning the opening match against Dari 3-1 (11-7, 6-11, 11-4, 11-8).
In the doubles, Dari and Drabant were again their nemesis as the Hungarian pair won their semi-final 3-0 (11-7, 11-7, 11-6).
In the singles, Bardsley played both in the Cadet and Junior events and qualified from her group in both with a total of five wins out of six matches.
But she was beaten in the first knockout round of both events – coming up against Dari yet again, who edged a tight match 3-1 (14-12, 10-12, 12-10, 15-13) in the Cadets, and going down 4-2 (11-8, 11-6, 11-7, 5-11, 12-14, 11-5) to Marose Al Hamra of France in the Juniors.
